Originally produced by the Abbey Theatre, Dublin in 2017, this Belgrade Theatre co-production with Double M Arts and Events, will be the UK premiere production of Roddy Doyle’s hilarious and poignant Two Pints (2 – 24 May). Directed by rising star Sara Joyce, this witty and emotional play explores the friendship between two men of a certain vintage as they attempt to support each other through life’s triumphs and tragedies, one pint at a time.
Two Pints will be the second Belgrade production of the season, following Romeo and Juliet, which is directed by Belgrade Theatre Creative Director, Corey Campell, and co-produced with Bristol Old Vic and Hackney Empire (21 Feb – 8 Mar).
The 2025 season also includes several nationally and internationally acclaimed shows including Anna-Marie Casey’s masterful adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women (19 – 22 Mar); the coming-of-age drama and Edinburgh smash-hit, Julia Grogan’s Playfight arriving as part of its UK tour (2 – 5 Apr), Tiata Fahodzi Triple Bill: EVERYWHERE (8 Apr). Laura Lomas’ The House Party (7 – 10 May), a bold and searingly relevant reimagining of Miss Julie for today’s generation, directed by Holly Race Roughan with movement by Frantic Assembly. Written with raw intensity, this explosive drama explores themes of class, privilege, and power over one unforgettable night. Written by Ali Milles with direction by the award-winning Phillip Franks, is Original Theatre’s thriller The Croft (20 – 24 May); Oddsocks return to the Belgrade with another high-energy, feel-good, family theatre show, Shakespeare’s hilarious comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream (16 – 18 Jun); from Cahoots Theatre, a moving story of friendship, belonging and one incredible journey from Bengal to the bright lights of Broadway, once named as a ‘Critic’s Pick’ in The New York Times, is The Vanishing Elephant (18 – 21 Jun). Returning to the Belgrade Theatre later in the year, is the iconic Rocky Horror Show (22 – 27 Sep), and FRIENDS! The Musical Parody (27 Oct) comes to Coventry as part of its UK tour.
There are plenty of theatre experiences for the whole family too, starting with Tangled Feet and Rowan Tree’s Belongings (8 Mar); HurlyBurly Theatre’s You Are The Sun, the folk-inspired opera for babies and grown-ups that explores the magic of nature (29 May); the story of an Ant who learns how to slow down in An Ant Called Amy (30 & 31 May); Tall Stories will bring the amazing patchwork elephant to life in The Elmer Adventures (5 – 7 Jun); then join Kevin, King of the staying-still-kings and his friends, kangaroo and wombat, in an Australian Outback adventure in The Koala Who Could (24 – 26 Jul).
A variety of music and entertainment will also come to the Belgrade including Murder She Didn’t Write (14 May), George Eliot in Words and Music (16 May), Penguin (11 & 12 Jun), and Ballet Black: SHADOWS (4 Nov).
Big School has been a staple part of the Belgrade Theatre programme for several years and will be returning to tour into Primary Schools in June. Big School is an original theatre-in-education programme for children in Year 6 that combines live professional theatre with participatory activities. It is designed to support pupils to explore their feelings about the move to secondary school and to equip them with useful strategies for dealing with issues of transition. Further details will be announced in the spring.
See It First will also continue in partnership with Paines Plough in 2025, with additional updates to come in the new year.
