Pop-up craft shop opens at the Belgrade

Local crafters and traders are invited to set up shop in our foyer throughout August

Following the recent reopening of our foyers to café patrons, we’re excited to be working with Craft On, our resident needlecraft for wellbeing group a new pop-up craft shop, with space available for local artists and makers to hire.

First held on Thursday 30 July, the pop-up shop is situated at our merchandise counter, in a prominent position close to our temporary café bar, which will be open for business from Monday-Saturday throughout August, and will be offering 50% off food and non-alcoholic drink from Monday-Wednesday through the government’s Eat Out to Help Out programme.

The space is available for local traders to hire at a rate of £10 per day throughout the month, with a discounted rate of £40 where six consecutive days are booked. Stalls can be set up from 9.30am, with the building open to the public from 10am-5pm. The space can also be shared by more than one retailer in order to spread the hire cost: previous dates have seen up to five crafters selling items together. Where possible, events will be promoted on social media.

Bookings are being managed on a voluntary basis by Niki Doughty Lee, who leads the Craft On group, which has resumed its weekly meetings with a socially distanced set-up since lockdown restrictions began to lift. If you are interested in hiring the space, please contact Niki with your preferred dates by emailing needlecraftforwellbeing@gmail.com or calling 0744 748 1616.

The future for all of us is uncertain but we hope this initiative gives people the opportunity to start re-building their confidence in selling and promoting their businesses, as well as supporting the work of the Belgrade while performances remain unable to take place.

The month will also end with a makers’ market outside the theatre from 11am-4pm on Saturday 29 August. Find out more via the Facebook event page.
