New Perspectives Theatre Company presents

(the) Woman

by Jane Upton

Thu 27 & Fri 28 Feb 2025

"So good we thought it was written by a man!"

M is a writer.  M is a mother.  M is a woman.

The triumph of M’s hit play is hijacked by motherhood – M is burnt out, angry, lonely, craving intimacy but disengaged, and terrified of the future.

She wants to tell her story, her way. But, everyone around her shares their opinions on who she is, who she should be and how she’s f*cking everything up.

Fiercely funny and brutally honest, award-winning writer Jane Upton’s Bruntwood Prize shortlisted play shatters the glossy veneer of motherhood, exposing its raw, messy truth, and dares to question the definition of (her) Self.

There will be a FREE post-show Meet the Writer event following the performance on Fri 28 Feb with director Angharad Jones and writer Jane Upton.

FREE Workshop Opportunity – A unique opportunity for local writers to work with award-winning playwright Jane Upton for a writing workshop which gets under the skin of her new, Bruntwood Prize Shortlisted Play (the) Woman. The workshop will take place from 5pm – 7pm on Fri 28 Feb in No. 71 at the Belgrade Theatre.

This workshop is available to writers who have purchased a ticket for the show. You will be prompted to book your place during the booking process for the show. Please note places are limited.
