Youth Acting Classes

Our fantastic Youth Acting Classes run on Saturday mornings for young people aged 8-11 (primary group) and 11-16 (secondary group). All of our Youth Acting Classes can be bought online via the links in red.

Through these fun and practical drama workshops, young people can stretch their creativity, improve their confidence, learn new skills and make new friends. Each term we focus on a different subject or style of theatre, so there’s always something new to learn.

Youth Acting Classes are led by experienced DBS checked practitioners in the Belgrade’s safe and professional theatre. No previous drama experience is necessary to take part. Just bring comfortable clothing and footwear, a bottle of water, and be ready to have fun!

Youth Acting Classes take place on Saturday mornings at the Belgrade Theatre, at the following times:

Primary group ages 8-11, 10.15am – 11.45am

Secondary group ages 11-16, Midday – 1.30pm

Youth Acting Classes – Spring Term 2019

Saturday 19 January 2019 – Saturday 30 March (no class 23 February)

Working together is a key skill when making theatre. By working as an ensemble, participants will learn how to develop and tell their own story, create a set and then perform as one.

Groups will work towards an end of term performance for family, friends and Belgrade Staff which will take place on the final session of the term. When booking, participants should be aware that this terms performance will take place on Saturday 30th March.

Youth Acting Classes – Summer Term 2019

Saturday 4 May 2019 – Saturday 13 July (no class 1 June)

During this term, groups will learn how to build a character. Exploring the work of famous drama practitioners we’ll find ways to portray a range of exciting personalities on stage.

Groups will work towards an end of term performance for family, friends and Belgrade Staff which will take place on the final session of the term. When booking, participants should be aware that this terms performance will take place on Saturday 13th July.

Cost: Prices are only £9 per class. The full cost of the term (£90) per term must be paid for by the first session.

Holiday Activities

The Belgrade’s Holiday Activities are action-packed with drama games and practical activities to keep young people entertained during the school holidays.

Holiday Camps are available for ages 8 – 13 years and led by experienced practitioners in the Belgrade’s safe and professional theatre. No previous theatre experience is necessary to attend.

February Camp 2018

Monday 18 – Tuesday 19 February 2019, 10am – 4:30pm

This half term we will be exploring the silly and wonderful world of Slapstick Comedy. Using the creative minds of your young people we will create mini performances inspired by slapstick scenes from the greats of Hollywood’s movies.

Cost: £55 per person (covers both days)

Easter Camp 2018

Monday 15 – Tuesday 16 April 2019, 10am – 4:30pm

Just over a year since Coventry got the title of City of Culture 2021, we will be exploring Stories of the City. Did you know there is a secret river running through the city centre? Where did Lady Godiva come from? Using the creative minds of your young people, we will create mini performances inspired by Coventry’s stories.

Cost: £55 per person (covers both days)

Summer School 2019

Our annual Summer School consists of 5 fun-filled days for young people aged 8-11 (primary group) and 11-16 (secondary group). During these popular workshops we keep young people entertained, nurture their curiosity and assist them to develop key life skills.

The theme of this year’s summer school is Play in a Week. during these fun and practical workshops, your young people will produce a short piece of theatre that they create themselves using skills that they learn throughout the week.

Summer School is led by our experienced DBS checked practitioners in the Belgrade’s safe and professional theatre. No previous drama experience is necessary to take part. Just bring comfortable clothing and footwear, and lots of enthusiasm!

Summer School takes place from Mon 29 July to Fri 2 Aug from 10am – 4.30pm at the Belgrade Theatre. At 4pm on the final day we’ll share what we’ve been working on with family and friends.

In order for young people to get the most from these activities, the groups are separated by age based on school years. Participants are welcome join the 8-11 group while they are at primary school, including when they’re in Year 6. If a young person is in Year 7 and above, they can join the 11-16 group. If a young person is in between Year 6 and 7 when they take part in Summer School, we’re happy for you to choose whichever group feels most appropriate.
