Chain'd Roots

Devised and written by the Company. Directed by Joseph Coelho

The Belgrade Community & Education Company presented Chain’d Roots as part of The New Black project on 26 October 2007.

Presented in partnership wth the Zion Outreach Projoect, this small-scale show commemorated 200 years since the abolition of slavery. Using song, movement and drama, the young people who performed in the production explored the history of slavery of the African people. Written entirely by the young people themselves, the powerful performance examined the meaning of slavery and the forms in which it still exists today.

The performances took place at 5pm and 5.30pm in the AUEW Building next to the Belgrade Theatre.
