2007-08

Commemorating 200 years since the abolition of slavery, The New Black play Chain’d Roots used song, movement and drama to examine the meaning of slavery and the forms in which it still exists today. Many of the Junior Youth Theatre participants performed live on stage for the first time in Now You See Me… Now You Don’t, which told stories on the theme of hide and seek, and Big School returned to tour primary schools with a new production entitled Promise written by Chris Cooper. In Our Own Words marked the the Belgrade’s first festival of theatre by and for young people following its 2008 reopening, with three new plays – The First Time I Saw Snow, Look Twice and The Last Heroes.
