Stay ACT-ive whatever your age with Drama Workshops at the Belgrade

Posted on 11 September 2014

Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre is delighted to be launching its first season of Theatre Master Classes for adults this September, thereby extending its existing programme of drama workshops to provide participants of all ages with the chance to develop their performance skills, make new friends and get fit in a fun and interactive performance environment.

The Belgrade Theatre will be launching two Theatre Master Class groups running for 10 weeks from Fri 26 Sept – Sat 5 Dec. These weekly, 90 minute sessions have been designed to offer participants of all abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to learn new performance skills, develop communication skills and have fun whilst improving their confidence and stretching their creativity in the process. Focusing on a different area of drama and performance each term, Autumn sessions will look at the theme of Musical Theatre. Classes will run on Friday evenings from 6pm – 7.30pm for age 16-25 years and from 7.45pm – 9.15pm for age 25 years and over.

Building upon its existing programme of drama activities for young people, the Belgrade Theatre will, once again, be running Saturday Drama Classes open to ages 8-11 and 11-16 years from Sat 27 Sept – Sat 6 Dec. These popular drama workshops have been designed with young people in mind, offering participants the opportunity to make new friends, develop their creativity and imagination and improve their confidence and communication skills in a fun and relaxed theatre environment. Classes will be led by an experienced drama practitioner and no previous experience is necessary to participate.

Claire Simpson from our Community and Education Company said “Our drama classes are a great way to occupy young people on a Saturday morning and introduce them to new people and skills, while having lots of fun. The practitioners we work with have a wealth of experience in delivering theatre activities for young people and unlocking creativity and potential.

‘’We’re particularly delighted to be piloting our first ever theatre master classes for adults this September. We firmly believe that you’re never too old to have fun, be creative and learn new skills. We hope that these unique and informal classes will appeal to people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, whether they’re adding to an existing skill-set, re-igniting a lapsed interest or learning a new skill from scratch.’’

This latest addition to the Belgrade’s programme of weekend and holiday activities follows in the success of Easter Camp and the theatre’s two-week long Summer School programme, now in its fourth successful year. This Autumn will see the launch of the Belgrade Theatre’s first ever Autumn Camp running for two days from Tues 28 – Wed 29 Oct in October Half Term.

Saturday Drama Classes run weekly from Sat 27 Sept – Sat 6 Dec (exc 1 Nov). Classes run from 10.15am – 11.45am for ages 8-11 and from 12noon – 1.30pm for ages 11-16. Classes are priced at £80 per term online and £85 if booked over the phone or in person.

Theatre Master Classes take place on Fridays (exc Fri 31 Oct) from 26 Sept – 5 Dec. Classes run from 6pm – 7.30pm for age 16-25 years and from 7.45pm – 9.15pm for age 25 years and over. Classes are priced at £90 per term online and £100 per person or by phone.
