Pans at the ready for Belgrade Theatre’s Pancake Flipping Race!
Following the success of last year’s inaugural Pantastic Pancake Flipping Race, Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre is once again inviting individuals and local businesses to help celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a fun filled pancake race on Broadgate between 12 noon and 2pm on Tuesday 4 March.
The event will see teams of 4 competing in a series of races involving flipping pancakes whilst navigating around obstacles for a chance to win a selection of prizes. Entry is free but teams will need to bring their own frying pan.
Collections will be taking place at the event in support of the Belgrade’s Give the Gift of Theatre Campaign, which aims to offer people who are facing challenging circumstances complimentary tickets to suitable shows at the Belgrade. A registered charity itself, the theatre provides the tickets for half their value and the remaining amount is raised from donations.
David Jane, Development Director at the Belgrade said, “Taking part in our Pantastic Pancake Race is a fun way to spend your lunchtime on Pancake Day and there’ll be plenty of prizes up for grabs for the winning teams too. It’s also a great way to raise awareness of the Give the Gift of Theatre campaign and hopefully provide even more families facing financial hardship the opportunity to visit the theatre”.
The Belgrade’s hugely successful Give the Gift of Theatre campaign was launched in 2012. Both individuals and local businesses made generous donations to the scheme, and as a result 200 children and their families were able to experience the Belgrade’s panto who otherwise may not have been able to.
Last year’s campaign exceeded its £7,325 target to raising a whopping £8,900, enabling 400 people facing financial hardship to see Jack and the Beanstalk. The money also helped fund a streamed broadcast of Jack and the Beanstalk into local hospitals, hospices and nursing homes.
To pre-register your Pancake Race team of four, email firstname.lastname@example.org and don’t forget to bring your own frying pan!
