Birds of a Feather

New shows on sale including Birds of a Feather and Birdsong!

Posted on 18 October 2012

We’re pleased to announce that a select few shows from our upcoming Spring 2013 Season will be on sale from Fri 19 Oct, including Sebastian Faulks’ Birdsong, Alfred Hitchcock’s classic spy thriller The 39 Steps and the new stage version of BBC sitcom Birds of a Feather, starring Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph.

Running on the Main Stage from Tues 29 Jan to Sat 2 Feb Birdsong is an epic tale of love and war set both before and during the Great War.

Recently aired over Christmas on BBC 1 and following on from the hit West End production in 2010, this brand new adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’ best-selling book marks the very first touring production of the play.

“Captures both the pain and the pity of a war that almost defies comprehension.” The Guardian on Birdsong

From Tues 26 Feb to Sat 2 March, one of BBC TV’s most popular and fondly-remembered sitcoms, Birds of a Feather, makes its way to the Main Stage, reuniting all three of its original leading cast members.

Starring Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph, Birds of a Feather ran on the BBC for nearly ten years throughout the 1990s, becoming a massive hit right from the word go. The show not only remains a classic comedy but also, as a female-centred long-running series, a truly rare gem.

Direct from the West End and Broadway, Alfred Hitchcock’s classic spy thriller, The 39 Steps, makes its way to the Main Stage from Mon 22 to Sat 27 April.

This comedy thriller, which won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2007, features four fearless actors, playing 139 roles in 100 minutes of action. The story follows the adventures of handsome hero Richard Hannay, complete with stiff-upper-lip, British gung-ho and pencil moustache as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women.

“Dizzyingly entertaining.” The Telegraph, on The 39 Steps

The first ever stage version of BAFTA award-winning television animation Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom will be coming to the Main Stage from Fri 22 and Sat 23 Feb. Families will get the chance to join Ben and Holly, and their friends on a musical adventure packed full of games, songs and laughter.

Also on sale is a series of one night music shows starting with Hats off to Led Zeppelin on Fri 8 Feb 2013. This fast paced tribute band is co-managed by Warren Grant, the son of legendary Led Zeppelin manager, Peter Grant.

This is followed by Moscow State Circus on Mon 11 and Tues 12 March and a remixed concert version of Boogie Nights on Sat 16 March. Featuring all the hits from the ‘70s, this live show will star Merrill, Jimmy and Jay from The Osmonds, Gareth Gates, Louisa Lytton from EastEnders plus X-Factor stars Andy Abraham and Chico.

On Mon 25 March The Irish House Party combines All Ireland Champion musicians and presenters with great banter and some Irish dancing in a live showcase of all best traditional entertainment the Emerald Isle has to offer.

The music of Phil Collins is brought to the Main Stage on Weds 27 March in And Finally… Phil Collins, which will see a live band perform and sing all the classic hits including In the Air Tonight, Easy Lover, Sussudio and Another Day In Paradise. This is followed by ‘80s Mania on Thurs 28 March and the return of Motown – How Sweet It Is on Weds 22 May.

Tickets for all of these shows will be available to Friends of the Belgrade Theatre, who have priority booking, from Fri 19 Oct and will go on sale to the general public from Mon 22 Oct. To book call the box office on 024 7655 3055 or take advantage of cheaper tickets by booking online.

Check back in the New Year when we will be announcing the complete Spring 2013 Season.
