Holyhead Road closure could affect journey to theatre
From Sunday 16 Oct Holyhead Road, one of the main roads into the city centre, will be closed off for three weeks while road works are carried out. Anybody visiting the theatre during this time is advised to plan their journey and allow plenty of time for increased volumes of traffic and diversions.
The work will cover the section from the ring road to Northumberland Road and will include a major change to the layout of the Barras Lane junction to improve the facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. The pedestrian crossing near Minster Road will be updated and the remaining five sets of lights along the road will also be upgraded.
A diversion will be put in place during the three weeks the work is being carried out taking traffic along Allesley Old Road and Radford Road.
Councillor Lindsley Harvard, Cabinet Member for City Services, said: “Holyhead Road is one of our main routes into the city and this package of improvements will help to improve safety for all road users and keep traffic moving into and out of the city.
However, because of the narrowness of the road at the Barras Lane junction, in order to carry out these works as quickly and as safely as possible, it will be necessary to close this section of Holyhead Road to traffic from Sunday 16 October for three weeks. Motorists will therefore need to use diversion routes along Allesley Old Road and Radford Road, both of which will be clearly signposted.”
