Hang Onto Your Frying Pan - Belgrade Pancake Flipping Race Returns for 2015!

Posted on 13 February 2015

Following the success of last year’s Pantastic Pancake Flipping Race, Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre is once again inviting individuals and local businesses to help celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a fun filled pancake race on Broadgate between 12.45pm and 1.45pm on Tuesday 17th February.

The event will see teams of four competing in a series of races involving flipping pancakes whilst navigating around obstacles for a chance to win a selection of prizes. Entry is free but teams will need to bring their own frying pan.

Collections will be taking place at the event in support of the Belgrade’s Give the Gift of Theatre campaign, which aims to offer people who are facing challenging circumstances complimentary tickets to suitable shows at the Belgrade. A registered charity itself, the theatre provides the tickets for half their value and the remaining amount is raised from donations.

Photographs of the Pancake Flipping Race will be available between 12.45pm – 1.45pm on Tuesday 17th February. Photographs with the winning team will be available directly after the race.

To coincide with Half Term, the venue will also be hosting its first ever Junior Pancake Race taking place at the Belgrade theatre on Tuesday 17th February at 11.45am and 3.30pm.

David Jane, Development Director at the Belgrade said, “Taking part in our Pantastic Pancake Race is a fun way to spend your lunchtime on Pancake Day and there’ll be plenty of prizes up for grabs for the winning teams too. It’s also a great way to raise awareness of the Give the Gift of Theatre campaign and hopefully provide even more families facing financial hardship the opportunity to visit the theatre.

In 2014, the Belgrade’s Give The Gift Of Theatre campaign provided over 160 pantomime tickets for families facing financial hardship at Christmas with a further 250 people, referred through Coventry Foodbanks’ partners, enjoying a performance in the new year. Building on the success of previous campaigns, monies raised through this year’s Give The Gift Of Theatre Campaign also helped support a specially recorded performance of Aladdin which was delivered to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorns Hospice plus selected Nursing Homes around the city including The Beaufort, Charnwood House, Herald Lodge, and Keresley Wood.

To pre-register your Pancake Race team of four, email arooney@belgrade.co.uk and don’t forget to bring your own frying pan!
