Community casting for Miller masterpiece A View From The Bridge

Posted on 19 December 2014

Touring Consortium Theatre Company hold regional auditions for community casting in next production of Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge.

The Belgrade Theatre is calling for aspiring actors and actresses to audition for a production of Arthur Miller’s, A View From The Bridge, marking the centenary year since the playwright’s birth. The show will be produced by the Touring Consortium Theatre Company who are looking for 10 – 12 ensemble cast members to appear alongside a professional company of actors on the Belgrade’s Main Stage in April 2015.

Often regarded as one of Arthur Miller’s greatest plays, A View From The Bridge is a classic modern drama set in 1950s New York. Longshoreman Eddie Carbone’s obsession with his orphaned niece spirals out of control. In a close Italian immigrant community bound by codes of justice and vengeance, the scene is set for disaster when Eddie and his wife welcome Sicilian cousins into their home. Sexual repression, paranoia and homophobia drive Eddie to an act of betrayal that has tragic consequences for himself, his family and the whole community.

The ensemble cast will get to share the stage with a professional company led by well-known TV actor Jonathan Guy Lewis. Jonathan has many credits to his name such as TV dramas Soldier, Soldier, London’s Burning and Coronation Street and will be taking on the lead role of Eddie for this production. He will also be joined by TV favourite Michael Brandon whose credits include Dempsey & Makepeace and Episodes.

This production, which celebrates 100 years since the birth of Arthur Miller, will embark on a national tour in Spring 2015 and stops off at the Belgrade Theatre from Wednesday 8 – Saturday 11 April. The Touring Consortium Theatre Company have a strong reputation for producing high quality theatre. Their previous productions include the What’sOnStage Award nominated, To Sir With Love, and a critically acclaimed production of Brassed Off which visited the Belgrade earlier this year. A View From The Bridge is the fourth production of their Arts Council England-funded Strategic Touring Programme.

Auditions will be held in the Weston Learning Space at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, on Thursday 22nd January 2015. To apply for a casting slot, please send a recent photo and a short paragraph about yourself explaining why you would like to take part to stacey@touringconsortium.com.
