Big Comfy Bookshop & Belgrade Theatre To Host Horrible Histories Book Night at Fargo Village!

Posted on 21 April 2015

We all want to meet people from history. The trouble is everyone is dead!

Horrible Histories fever hits Coventry this Spring with the arrival of a brand-new double bill Groovy Greeks and Incredible Invaders landing at the Belgrade theatre from Tues 26 – Sat 30 May!

To celebrate the return of the nation’s best-loved historical stage show, the Belgrade Theatre have teamed up with staff at The Big Comfy Bookshop, Fargo Village to play host to a night of gruesome games, blood-curdling crafts and spine-chilling storytelling on Thursday 30th April from 6pm – 8pm.

The free event which takes place at The Big Comfy Bookshop in Fargo Village follows in the success of the Harry Potter Book Night held at the store in February earlier this year. The event takes its inspiration from over a century of Incredible Invaders to the U.K taking in ruthless Romans, vicious Vikings, smashing Saxons and a host of colourful historical characters along the way.

Discover ancient artefacts from Coventry’s roman past with local history expert Dom Russell, have your photo taken with a fully-armed Anglo-Saxon Solider, try your hand at Roman sword-making and get to grips with the grisly world of ancient medicine with ‘bursting boil’ and other craft workshops taking place throughout the evening courtesy of AllSorts Coventry.

Visitors can look forward to a taste of Anglo-saxon hospitality with non-alcoholic measly mead served throughout the night from the bookshop’s pop-up tavern. There will also be the opportunity for guests to test their historical knowledge with a quick-fire quiz inspired by the hit stage show with the first prize of a family ticket to see Horrible Histories – Groovy Greeks and Incredible Invaders up for grabs plus a chance to meet the stars backstage after the show.

Visitors are invited to come dressed as a Ruthless Roman, Vicious Viking, Smashing Saxon or Cutthroat Celt with prizes for the Best Dressed historical characters awarded throughout the night.

Horrible Histories – Book Night is free to attend and will take place between 6pm and 8pm on Thursday 30th April at The Big Comfy Bookshop in Fargo Village.

Incredible Invaders the Celts are crunched when the Ruthless Romans invaded Britain. Can crazy Caratacus can save the nation? Hide behind Hadrian’s Wall and witness the Savage Saxons smash their way in. Can you stop King Alfred burning his buns? Discover who’s at Sutton Hoo and survive the Vicious Vikings as they sail into the audience. It’s a thousand year journey with Incredible Invaders!

Groovy Greeks takes us from savage Sparta to angry Athens to discover the truth about growing up in Greece. Take on the Trojans and pummel the Persians! Compete in the first ever Olympic Games and appear in the very first play! Meet your match with the Minotaur and be zapped by Zeus! Hold on tight as you gatecrash the gruesome and Groovy Greeks!
