Belgrade Production Services Captured On Camera

Posted on 13 June 2014

Did you know, the Belgrade Theatre operates a nationally-recognized workshop, manufacturing and installation facility right in the heart of Coventry?

From its workshops in Red Lane, Belgrade Production Services (BPS) not only produce sets for all of the Belgrade Theatre’s productions, they also design and produce sets for theatres across the country as well as for TV, film and other events.

It all started over ten years ago when the theatre began investigating significant new ways of maximising its existing income streams. Faced with growing operational costs linked to the theatre’s £14 million capital project that involved building a second flexible auditorium (B2) and rehearsal space, the theatre turned to the commercial potential of its in-house workshop facilities. Fast-forward a decade and BPS is now producing sets for theatres across the UK including the National Theatre, Stafford Gatehouse, Theatre Royal Bath, Leicester Curve, Newbury’s Watermill Theatre and Regent’s Park with an annual turnover of £400,000 a year.

Life In The Open Air…

Listed among BPS most recent projects are the set build and fit-up for All My Sons and Hobson’s Choice at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in London. No stranger to producing work for this theatre, BPS were responsible for building the set for Lord Of The Flies (pictured above) which saw the work of Set Designer Jon Bausor recognised with a prestigious WhatsonStage award-nomination in 2011.

For anyone who has ever wondered what goes into the fit up and de-construction of a professional set, our friends at Regent’s Park Open Air theatre have provided the answer in the form of this impressive timelapse footage

Filmed over the course of a weekend, this fascinating video of BPS in action offers a second-by-second visual account of the set changeover from the final performance of All My Sons on Saturday 7th June through to the finals moments of the fit-up of Hobson’s Choice.
