Your Theatre Kneads YOU!

Bake Off fever has officially arrived in panto-land, it was revealed today, as the stars of the Belgrade’s festive spectacular, Beauty and the Beast, prepared to don their pinnies and grab their best bloomers for the theatre’s first ever Baking Memories Charity ‘Bake’ Off’.

The one-off fundraiser which is being held at the Belgrade Theatre on Tuesday 1st December in aid of families facing financial hardship at Christmas, will see intrepid staff from across Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre take on the crème-de-la-crème of pantoland in an epic battle to see their culinary creations crowned ‘fairest of them all’ this festive season.

The Making Memories campaign, formerly Give the Gift of Theatre, aims to provide up to 400 free tickets to the theatre’s annual pantomime – Beauty and the Beast for families facing financial hardship at Christmas.

Working in partnership with Coventry Foodbank, this year’s campaign has so far seen over 180 people experience a performance of pantomime at the theatre, following a record number of applications in 2015.

With an additional 150 people pre-applying for tickets this year, the Belgrade is once again appealing for Coventry and Warwickshire audiences to dig deep to raise an additional £2,700 to help spread the magic of pantomime even further this Christmas.

David Jane, the Belgrade’s Development Director added _“We are absolutely thrilled with the response we have received so far. For many people across the region this year, a trip to panto is a luxury that they simply can’t comprehend, whether due to financial hardship, serious ill-health or other circumstances. By providing over 400 people with free tickets to see the show, we hope to offer people some much-needed quality time with their families at Christmas which should go some way towards breaking down that sense of isolation that some people facing these challenging circumstances feel, particularly at Christmas. Whilst we can’t make people’s problems go away, we can offer them some respite from those problems through schemes like Making Memories, thereby helping them to feel more positive moving forward’’. _

For children and adults alike, a visit to the theatre at Christmas is a magical experience, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Unfortunately, many families across the region will miss out on the experience this year. The Making Memories campaign aims to offer families the chance to enjoy quality time together over the festive period thereby giving more people to experience the joy, excitement and escapism that theatre can bring.

To make a donation to the Belgrade’s Making Memories campaign, call: 024 7684 6758 or visit www.localgiving.com/charity/belgradetheatre. All funds raised will help ensure that families who are facing financial hardship will not miss out on seeing this year’s Belgrade panto.

Giving Tuesday is an international day of giving whereby, following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, people are encouraged to donate to charity on Tuesday 1st December 2015. For more information, visit the Giving Tuesday website.
