Video: Spotlight On Black Youth and Senior Youth Theatre
An interview with Leon Phillips, a Drama Worker at the Belgrade, discussing his experiences working with young people from the Belgrade’s Youth Theatres in the run-up to this year’s July Festival. Leon is directing two upcoming shows for the July Festival, Broken and Sleeping Through the Alarm, both of which deal with issues that young people face today, and translate their concerns onto stage.
Broken, performed by the Belgrade Black Youth Theatre, explores the difficulty of expressing creativity in a education system increasingly governed by targets and rules. Sleeping Through The Alarm looks at the decisions young people are faced with when they finish school and the impact of these choices upon them.
Broken and Sleeping Through The Alarm will be performed as part of In Our Own Words – a two-week long July Festival of theatre by and for young people, in celebration of the 50th anniversary since the invention of Theatre in Education at the Belgrade Theatre.
Tickets for Broken, Sleeping Through The Alarm and all other Belgrade shows taking part in the July Festival are FREE, although we do ask that you make a donation to the Belgrade Community & Education Company. Book now by calling our friendly Box Office team on 024 7655 3055 or book online.
