Promoting Disabled Access at the Belgrade
Here at the Belgrade, we believe everyone should be able to access and enjoy live theatre. We are working hard to make this a reality, and want to share some of the recent developments that we have made in the area of disabled access.
Accessing our theatre
Our season brochure is available in different formats for example, large print. If you would like our season brochure in an alternative format, please contact our friendly box office team who will be happy to assist.

Ways we can help your visit
We want to help patrons get the most out of their visit, and we encourage patrons to give our friendly Box Office team an e-mail, call or drop-in if you have any specific access queries. This includes questions about content of the performance. Please ask our Box Office team about disability related discounts, companion tickets and access to our onsite wheelchair. Last year, we were thrilled to present our first ever relaxed performance. Working alongside one of our Springboard companies, we hosted a relaxed performance of an opera version of Cinderella. This was well received and following the success of this performance, we are thrilled to be hosting another relaxed performance. This time, it will be for our annual pantomime, Cinderella.
All of our own Belgrade productions and many visiting productions are supported by captioning or sign language interpreters and are audio-described. With regard to audio description, the theatre endeavours to provide this service for all shows lasting at least six days. New equipment has recently been installed that offers patrons over 93% coverage across Main House seating. To find out more about our captioned performances, please visit our blog post here.
We are continually diversifying our programme and are thrilled to be hosting 11 Million Reasons to Dance on June 17 – is a special commission for Coventry, as part of People Dancing’s national programme to positively profile Deaf and disabled people who dance. We hope to continue this positive work – keep an eye out for our Autumn Season to see more disability-led work.
We work closely with our local community to build relationships and to find out ways we can improve our access provisions from people who will be using our space or may want to do so in the future.
Our Development team run a fantastic campaign called Making Memories which aims to provide tickets for families who are facing illnesses and disabilities alongside hardship. One of the criteria for qualifying is if a child or parent has an illness or disability, and they were able to give out pantomime tickets to quite a few families last Christmas. Our Development team also work hard to make sure that we make available the most appropriate seats that meet their specific needs/mobility requirements and help to accommodate getting them to/from the theatre.
Our Community and Education team run a fab programme called the Arts Gym here at the Belgrade. This programme champions stimulating engagement with the arts as a way to promote health and well-being – both through participating in arts activity and as a way of exploring key issues.
Our Communications team work hard building relationships with the local community, going to events to talk about our shows and where possible, bring theatre out to people in their own communities.
Whilst we are working hard to make our theatre as accessible as possible, we are always happy to receive feedback on ways in which we can approve – input is always something that we value so that we can improve our practice.
