Panto season is up on us!
On Monday 2 November, we welcomed the cast of this year’s pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, to the theatre In true Belgrade style coffee and pastries were involved – which Dame Clarabelle loved!
Once again, Friends of the Belgrade Theatre joined Belgrade staff for the meet and greet event, in which Hamish Glen introduces the Company to the theatre and vice versa. With the coffee drank, pastries eaten and names exchanged we all headed to the rehearsal room to have a look at the model box for the set. We also had a sneak peek at the costumes designs. As the panto is set in France this year, Dame Clarabelle Crumble has taken some fashion inspiration from the country’s most famous landmark.
After a quick coffee break, the cast will no doubt be surviving on coffee over the next 3 weeks whilst they perfect the show before opening night on Wednesday 25 November, we sat down to listen to the cast read through the script. This is the first time that the actors had all sat down together to read the script out aloud.
This gave the Friends a feel for what they can expect to see on stage, although some scenes like the infamous “slosh scene” are hard to convey without props, costumes and an audience. We are confident that the comedy double act of Iain Lauchlan (Dame Clarabelle Crumble) and Craig Hollingsworth (Willy Crumble) will create a hilarious scene.
This event is the first in our Panto Page to Stage Series, the Friends of the Belgrade Theatre will be joining us again at the final dress rehearsal before Beauty and the Beast opens. They will also attend a VIP performance at the end of November.
