#LoveTheatreDay

Posted on 16 November 2016

It’s #LoveTheatreDay, a day to celebrate everything we love about theatre and how it shapes our cultures and communities. As it gets closer to Christmas, many of us will be visiting the theatre as a special treat for ourselves and our families.

For many families, however, a trip to the theatre is a luxury they simply cannot afford. That’s why the Belgrade Theatre launched it’s Making Memories campaign, to provide 500 tickets to our pantomime, Dick Whittington, to families in need.

We need to raise £6,840, and so far we’ve raised an amazing £1,800, but there is still a long way to go. We’ve already received hundreds of applications from families facing terrible hardship. Here’s Martin’s story:

Martin and his family are due to be evicted from their home in early January – just two days before Martin’s mother is due to give birth. Martin’s attendance in school has been affected and he suffers from emotional problems, which has resulted in counselling. Severe financial hardship is making life very difficult for the whole family. Martin is just 7 years old and has never been to see a pantomime.

So if you love theatre, please donate whatever you can to Making Memories, so that others can experience the joy and escapism of theatre this Christmas.

If you can donate £10 or more before 5pm on the 17th November 2016, Local Giving will match your donation by £10.

We’re incredibly proud of the work that we do; however, none of this would be possible without the support of our audiences, funders, donors and Members.

The Belgrade Theatre Trust is a registered charity (number 219163). This means that all the money given, raised or earned is not distributed as profit but kept and reinvested in the work that we do.
