It's all spin - Dame Nanny McWheeze visits The Weaver's House

Posted on 29 October 2018

With rumours of an enchanted spinning wheel threatening to spoil Princess Belle’s 18th birthday celebrations, this weekend, Sleeping Beauty’s Dame Nanny Fanny McWheeze decided to investigate whether the stories are really true, or if it’s all just spin…

Following a run-in with the wicked fairy Carabosse at Belle’s christening, the King ordered that all spinning wheels be banished from his kingdom, fearful that his daughter might prick her finger on a spindle and be doomed to sleep for a hundred years or more. But 18 years on, the irrepressible Nanny McWheeze managed to locate one at The Weaver’s House in the neighbouring kingdom of Coventry.

There she encountered the local Spinners’ Guild, who imparted some of their spinning wheel expertise in the hope it might help our heroes turn the spinning wheel of fortune and steer the Princess clear of Carabosse’s curse.

After a quick chat with her namesake, Frances, from the Spinners’ Guild, the daring Dame decided to try her own hand at some spinning, before exploring the house and meeting and greeting some of the families visiting its special Hallowe’en open day.

Some might say Nanny McWheeze isn’t the sharpest spindle in the kingdom, and learning a new skill can be enough to make anyone’s head spin! But we think she did a pretty good job for her first time – you can take a look at how she got on below.

Luckily (unluckily, as the case may be for Belle) however, there was not a spindle anywhere in sight, poisoned or otherwise! So is Princess Belle really doomed to a century of snoozing, or was Carabosse simply spinning everyone a yarn? And will Nanny McWheeze live out the rest of her days as a spinster, or is there a happy ever after in sight for her as well?
