Give The Gift Of Theatre This Panto Day!

Posted on 12 December 2014

It’s been a busy old day in panto land!

As theatres across the UK came together to celebrate National Panto Day, here at the Belgrade, it was time to step up efforts for our 2014 Give The Gift of Theatre campaign with a whole day of fundraising dedicated to helping to spread the magic of panto to families facing financial hardship at Christmas.

First up, brave businesses and Belgrade staff took to Broadgate to take part in the city’s first ever Dame Race! This was followed by a warming mice pie reception at the City Centre branch of Barclays Bank featuring a special guest appearance from Belgrade panto stars, Craig Hollingsworth and Iain Lauchlan!

Back at the theatre, our talented Box Office team were busy tempting the tastebuds with their very own bake sale! And of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without a festive jumper or two!

A huge thanks to everyone who took part in today’s fundraising. Special thanks go to Barclays Bank, Pure Gym, Hollyhead Road Morrisons and Adecs IT Support for their generosity.

The Belgrade’s Give The Gift Of Theatre Campaign aims to provide at least 400 people, referred through Coventry Foodbanks’ referral partners, with tickets to a performance of Aladdin. Building on the success of previous campaigns, monies raised through this year’s Give The Gift Of Theatre Campaign will also help support a specially recorded performance of Aladdin to be shown at University Hospital Coventry, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Warwick Hospital plus selected Nursing Homes around the city including The Beaufort, Chartwood House, Herald Lodge, Myton Hospice and Keresley Wood.

Following the success of last year’s campaign, the people of Coventry have dug even deeper this year to help make sure as many people as possible have the opportunity to experience the magic of pantomime this Christmas. This year’s campaign has already benefitted from the generous donations of a number of local Coventry and Warwickshire businesses including Jaguar Land Rover. The Coventry Business Improvement District (BID), which is tasked with helping to maintain a vibrant city centre, has also donated £1,000 towards the delivery of a specially recorded performance of pantomime to selected hospitals and hospices across Coventry, Warwickshire and the wider West Midlands.
