We're Giving the Gift of Theatre at this year's Fun Run
A team of runners comprising staff and supporters of the Belgrade Theatre will be taking part in the Coventry Fun Run on Sunday 9 June to raise funds for the theatre’s Give the Gift of Theatre campaign.
Now in its 30th year, the Coventry Fun Run has raised over £1.3 million for worthy charities and good causes. As a registered charity, the Belgrade Theatre Trust has entered a team to raise funds for its Give the Gift of Theatre Campaign, which aims to give families facing financial hardship the opportunity to experience live theatre at the Belgrade.
David Jane, Development Director at the Belgrade said, “The Belgrade Team comprises members of staff from the Box Office, the Communications and Development depts and the Signatures Café. We’ve set ourselves a target of £700, which would give around 20 families the opportunity to attend a performance of a family show. It would be great to reach this target and give these families a much needed morale boost, and the chance to spend some quality time together away from their worries, but if we could exceed it then that would be even better!”
The Belgrade launched the Give the Gift of Theatre campaign last Christmas in association with the Coventry Foodbank to coincide with its pantomime, Sleeping Beauty. Both individuals and members of the Belgrade’s Directors’ Club made generous donations to the scheme, and as a result, 200 children and their families were able to experience the Belgrade’s panto who otherwise may not have been able to.
Following the success of the campaign, it has now been extended to allow families the opportunity to enjoy an evening out watching forthcoming family shows at the Belgrade including Three Witches and this year’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk.
The Coventry Fun Run starts at 10.30am on Sunday 9 June from the War Memorial Park. The length of the run is approximately 3.5 miles and the route goes through closed streets of Earlsdon and Cheylesmore before finishing back in the War Memorial Park. All standards of runners are welcome including less able runners. Participants can run, walk, or a mixture of both, and there is no time limit to finish by.

The Belgrade Theatre Trust (Coventry) Ltd is a registered charity (No 219163), so all of the money raised and earned by the theatre is reinvested in the services it provides to the local community. Amongst other things, these services include, creating and staging high quality productions on the Main Stage and in B2, working with local communities and young people, many of whom are at risk of social and/or educational exclusion via the Community & Education Company and developing the careers of young people who want to work in the arts.
