Dementia Awareness Week 2017

Posted on 18 May 2017

Dementia Awareness Week is here from the 14-20 May, a week where the Alzhiemer’s Society ask everyone to unite against dementia.

Here at the Belgrade, we’re taking positive steps to make ourselves a ‘dementia friendly’ venue, looking at everything from signage, to our productions, to how we train our staff.

Our Arts Gymnasium project manager Alice Williams runs weekly drama sessions for over 50s with early stage dementia, helping bring people together to express themselves creatively in a safe and friendly environment.

Dementia Friends Information Sessions are also held every two months, and are open to our staff, freelancers and the public. These sessions help to provide an understanding of what dementia is, and how best to help people living with the disease.

Later in the year, Vamos, the UK’s leading full-mask theatre will be bringing their production Finding Joy to the Belgrade. Finding Joy has won acclaim from audiences and critics alike, following last year’s Edinburgh Festival and two international sell-out tours. There will even be a dementia friendly performance during the run.

Keep checking our website for more information.

The Belgrade Theatre Trust (Coventry) Ltd is a registered charity (no 219163)

All the money given, raised or earned is not distributed as profit, but kept and reinvested back into our work.
