Dame Clarabelle celebrates Christmas at Coombe Abbey
Crumble was on the menu at an historic Warwickshire hotel as it welcomed a surprise Christmas visitor.
Dame Clarabelle Crumble, star of the Belgrade’s Beauty and the Beast panto, took a break from rehearsals to spread festive cheer at Brinklow’s Coombe Abbey Hotel where she was also treated to afternoon tea, cakes and crumble.
The surprise occasion was organised by the Belgrade’s Directors’ Club, an initiative which invites local businesses to support Coventry’s vibrant theatre by becoming members – and Coombe Abbey was picked at random as the business for the Dame to visit.
During her visit, the Dame was given the royal treatment with a tour of the country house hotel’s grounds and a taster of the afternoon tea menu which includes a range of finger sandwiches, cakes and freshly baked scones.
Clarabelle even sampled a half pint of the exclusive Ale of Coombe – which she gave her noble seal of approval.
Dame Clara, who is played by theatre stalwart Ian Lauchlan, said the visit was one of her favourite appointments in her social calendar.
“Christmas at Coombe Abbey is a very special experience and my visit was nothing short of show-stopping,” she said.
“The afternoon tea they serve could even give some of the delectable treats I serve in my pub, The Pickled Pheasant, a run for its money!”
Also appearing at Coombe in the run up to Christmas is fellow cast member and Free Radio personality, JD, who along with appearing in selected performances of the Christmas panto, is also hosting the hotel’s party nights throughout December until January.
Beauty and the Beast is running at the Belgrade Theatre until Saturday, January 9.
