Cooking Up A Storm...Writer Liz Mytton on Red Snapper
In our latest video, we chat to Liz Mytton, the writer of new play Red Snapper which will be staged in B2 this March.
Jamaica, 1962. The island is alive with the excitement of independence and the thrill of providing the setting for the iconic James Bond movie, Dr. No.
But for five women and their husbands on the council, this is a time of mixed fortunes and uncertainty, as personal and political tensions simmer against a backdrop of mass emigration and unrest.
With an all-female cast, including BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Cathy Tyson, playing a collection of vibrant characters, and dialogue loaded with humour and pathos, this thrilling new drama will be directed by Belgrade Associate Director, Justine Themen who makes her directorial debut as part of an all-female creative team.
This brand new play was written by Liz Mytton as part of the Belgrade’s Critical Mass writing programme, which works writers from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Communities to develop and nurture their talent. This will be the first professionally produced play to come out to the Critical Mass scheme, which started at The Royal Court Theatre in 2004.
Red Snapper runs in B2 from Sat 5 – Sat 19 March. Tickets are available now from just £9.50 by calling our friendly Box Office team on 024 7655 3055 or book online for even cheaper tickets.
