Casting Announced for Bring On The Bollywood
Do you know your Thumka from your shoulder strutt?
In just a few short weeks, the Belgrade will play host to all-new musical comedy, Bring On The Bollywood – a ludicrously romantic romp through the landscapes of Hindi cinema inspired by the love stories of 21st Century British Asians!
With preparations for the show in full swing, we’re thrilled to announce full casting for the show – which comes direct from our friends at Phizzical Productions, one of the UK’s leading producers of South Asian theatre.
Fresh from her role in the hugely successful Bend it Like Beckham, Nottingham-born actress Sohm Kapila stars as doctor-come-dancer Katrina Pawaar. She is joined by Adam Samuel-Bal as Ranbir ‘Ronny’ Kapoor who was last seen at the Belgrade Theatre playing Sully in the critically-acclaimed UK Tour of Blood, a co-production between Tamasha and the Belgrade Theatre.
Completing the cast are Sakuntala Ramanee, Rohit Gokani, Bhavin Bhatt, Rishi Nair, Nikkita Chadha, Rasheeda Ali, Chrissie Chanel, Jo Bispham, Prem Rai, Subhash Viman, Hemisha Dave, Dan Jordan, Rupali Pattni and Dhyani Modessa.
Bring on the Bollywood creative team include writer and director Samir Bhamra, choreography from internationally renowned performers Leena Patel, Subhash Viman and Sonia Sabri and outstanding contributions from multi-disciplinary composer Niraj Chag. The unique sights and sounds of Bollywood cinema are recreated to perfection by composers Devesh Sodha and Sarvar Sabri. The show also features original music by Robby Khela, lighting design by Pete Bragg and make up design by Bollywood make up artist Tanvi Gutka.
City and country, old and new collide at Colonel Pawar’s ancestral home – the shabby and un-chic Lakshman Villa. Confined within these walls, his wife Lalita pines for the cultural polish of London, New York or Paris!
Enter the good looking and newly eligible Ronny – a quiet and withdrawn young British man who is here to scatter the ashes of his love. The Pawars have found a potential suitor to their quick-witted and resolute daughter Katrina, who is sharp, sassy and in complete control, until she learns of her parent’s intentions. What could possibly go wrong?
Described as ‘a Bollywood-inspired musical comedy’, this latest offering from Phizzical Productions – one of the UK’s leading producers of South Asian theatre – fuses contemporary stories of love as seen through the eyes of 21st century British Asians, with the romance and magic of Bollywood cinema past and present.
Bring on the Bollywood opens in B2 from Sat 23 – Sat 30 April. To book tickets, call our friendly Box Office on 024 7655 3055 or visit www.belgrade.co.uk
