Cast Announced for The Quite Remarkable Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat

Posted on 23 January 2017

Rehearsals are now underway for our brand new and imaginative production, The Quite Remarkable Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat. This brilliantly chaotic new musical is based on the book by Eric Idle, and inspired by the poem by Edward Lear. This surreal musical adaptation plays out in our B2 auditorium from Sat 18 Feb – Sat 4 Mar and is set to be the perfect half term family treat!

The talented new cast have recently sailed down a river of jam and landed at the Belgrade Theatre. Full of enthusiasm, fun and frolics they will soon be in the spotlight of the B2 stage bringing lots of nonsense to Coventry! We are even more excited to be presenting this production as it will be directed by our very own Artistic Director, Hamish Glen. It is also the latest co-production between ourselves and Sell A Door Theatre Company.

We follow the Owl and Pussycat on their mission to save the world and defeat the dastardly Firelord, his imaginary dragon, Pyron, and his henchmen, Flicker and Brimstone. With Professor Bosh’s help, they seek the magical Bong Tree which will lead them all to safety in the Land of Bong.

Their adventures take them across the Gromboolian Plains, down a river of jam, and over a frozen rainbow – helped on their way by a host of wonderful characters including a resurrected dinosaur skeleton, the Pie-Rats and a dancing Pig in sunglasses.

The eager cast will be headed up by the gifted Adapter, Composer and Musical Director, Dougal Irvine, who has brought this unique creation to life! He has most recently been composer for The Twits at the Curve Theatre and The Witches at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Dougal is very excited to be here at the Belgrade Theatre and can’t wait to get started!

Our Owl and Pussycat will be played by Danny Lane and Sally Frith. Danny has appeared in many productions across the UK and most recently starred in The Cat In The Hat at the Pleasance Theatre, Islington. His unlikely Pussycat companion, in the form of Sally Frith, has also starred in a variety of stage productions in the UK, as well as performing in an international tour as Ali in Mamma Mia. Sally was most recently part of the ensemble cast in Snow White at The Hexagon Theatre, Reading.

Lizzie Wofford will be doing lots of multitasking as she takes on the roles of: Professor Bash, Pig and Dinosaur! Lizzie is a West Midlands based actress, singer and writer and most recently played the role of Eleanor in State Fair with the London Musical Theatre Orchestra. Similarly, Miri Gellert will also be playing three faces, as she steps into the roles of Yin / Yang and Turkey. Miri has recently played Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland at the Madinat Theatre in Dubai.

The dual roles of Flicker and Brimstone will be played by the very talented Yanick Ghanty and completing our cast is Vedi Roy in the role of the dastardly Firelord! His work includes Banker in The Hunting of the Snark at the Sherman Theatre and Duke Theseus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

They will be joined on stage by a wonderfully crafted set, hilarious songs and lots of chaos! Aimed at families with young children, it’s set to be a celebration of nonsense, and is sure to enthral anyone with a sense of fun and wonder.
