Cast Announced for Made In India

Posted on 14 December 2016

Rehearsals are now underway for our new B2 production, Made In India, a thrilling new play about motherhood and blood ties between women and nations. Taking to our B2 stage from Tues 24 Jan – Sat 4 Feb, this brand new play is written by Satinder Chohan – winner of the Adopt-a-Playwright award 2013 – and is sure to be a compelling drama that brings to the forefront the current global debate on surrogacy in an absorbing and entrancing setting.

Set in a surrogacy clinic in Gujarat, India’s westernmost state, three woman meet, Londoner Eva, village girl Aditi and clinic owner, Dr Gupta. Eva is in motherhood’s last chance saloon, for Aditi – who is also a dairy worker and single mother – surrogacy is a lifeline out of poverty and for businesswoman Dr Gupta, it’s all just another transaction. But with the backdrop of profound global forces, can it possibly remain that simple? Emerging writer Satinder Chohan delves into dark, salient issues, highlighting the plight of motherhood and blood ties between these subcontinental women.

A talented cast of three will be treading the boards in this captivating drama. The all-female cast includes: Gina Isaac, taking on the role of Eva, Syreeta Kumar who will be playing Dr Gupta and Ulrika Krishnamurti who will be filling the shoes of Aditi.

Syreeta Kumar (Dr Gupta) has appeared in many stage, television and film productions over the years. Most recently, she was on stage in Fall of the Kingdom, Rise of the Foot Solider, directed by Nadia Latif. Syreeta has also recently finished filming for British film drama, The Children Act, starring alongside Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci.

Gina Isaac (Eva) can most recently be seen playing Dr. Melissa Keyes in BBC One soap, EastEnders and also took on a key role in 2012’s feel good film of the year, Fast Girls. Last year Gina also starred in The National Theatre’s award-winning production, The Curios Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time.

Ulrika Krishnamurti (Aditi) took on the lead role earlier this year in Echoes Within Walls, a true story written by Sahar Beg. She has also recently lead the cast of feature film, Kamsa, an anthology of 5 connected stories.

Together with Syreeta and Gina, these three actresses are sure to present powerful performances and depict an accurate portrayal of the current global debate on surrogacy.
