Belgrade Theatre Panto Auditions Attract Hundreds of Young Hopefuls

Posted on 5 September 2016

Hundreds of excited young hopefuls and their families were seen queuing outside the Belgrade Theatre on Sunday to audition for a part in this year’s pantomime, Dick Whittington. The queues of people extended out onto Belgrade Square and down Corporation Street.

Every year, the Belgrade Theatre attracts a huge number of children to audition in front of a panel of judges which include Director, Dame and all-round pantomime legend Iain Lauchlan, Producer Steve Boden and Choreographer, Jenny Phillips.

Our potential panto stars were met with encouraging words from Free Radio presenters JD & Roisin, who will also be appearing in two special performances of Dick Whittington at the Belgrade this Christmas.

The children, ranging from ages 9 to 16, were taught a short dance routine to perform in front of the panel. Successful auditionees were then invited to return in the afternoon for a second round of auditions.

By the end of the day, the panel had selected three successful teams of eight who will get the chance to appear alongside a professional cast of actors in this year’s pantomime, plus one team of reserves.

Following in the success of last year’s record-breaking production of Beauty and the Beast, Dick Whittington features all the hallmarks of a traditional Belgrade Theatre pantomime, spectacular scenery, incredible costumes, hilarious slapstick and plenty of audience participation.

Dick Whittington runs on the Belgrade’s Main Stage from Wed 23 Nov 2016 – Sat 7 Jan 2017. Tickets are priced from £11 for Kids and £16 for Adults. To book, call the Belgrade Theatre Box Office on 024 7655 3055 or book online where tickets are cheaper.
