Belgrade Mela's Evening Spectacular!

Posted on 5 July 2016

It’s July and at the Belgrade we all know what that means – the Coventry Belgrade Mela is set to return for another exciting explosion of South Asian culture!

Coming up on Saturday 23rd July, the Mela is filled with free daytime activities, as well as a fantastic ticketed event in the evening. This evening event comprises of South Asian talent from across Coventry and Warwickshire, who will take to the Belgrade Main stage to showcase their various art forms. Representing the diversity of South Asian talent that exists in the city today, from classical Bharatanyam dancing to Dhol, Bollywood folk music to Tabla drumming, this spectacular live show will bring together the best of Coventry’s South Asian arts and artists for one night only!

Leading the line-up will be the Masterclass Dhol Drummers, proving that just the beat is enough to get you up on your feet! This will be followed by regular Mela performer Sneha Singh with a dance piece showcasing the use of folk music from Bollywood films as she travels across the South Asian continent.

The Belgrade’s own Asian Youth Theatre will also be taking to the stage to perform an extract of their critically-acclaimed, devised piece_ Somewhere to Belong _which was first performed as part of the 2015 July Festival of Theatre By and For Young People.

Completing the line-up with their first visit to the Belgrade Theatre is The Generations Live Band – a six-piece group who, through the love of Punjabi music, have come together to perform a selection of classic hits from the Indian subcontinent.

Tickets for the Belgrade Mela evening show on the Belgrade Main stage are priced £10.75 & £12.75.
