Moving On Up - On Location with the cast of Big School

Posted on 20 June 2014

This year, the Belgrade Theatre runs its annual Theatre in Education (TiE) project, Big School, for the 16th year running in primary schools across Coventry. This pioneering project, run by the Belgrade’s Community & Education Company was set up to help primary school children with the transition to Secondary School and has this year reached over 1,800 children from 38 different schools.

The play currently in performance as part of the Big School project is called Becoming Me, by the award-winning children’s playwright Marielle Van Sauers, the Belgrade’s Associate Director, Justine Themen; and Dramaturg Ola Animashawun. Performed by a cast of three professional actors including Shereena Glean, Kim Hackleman and Jon Morris, this interactive production invites its audience of Year Six pupils to participate and talk about the action on stage to help prepare them for challenges they might face in making the move to ‘Big School.’

Today we visited Moat House Community Primary School, to watch Becoming Me in action as it was performed to 46 Year 6 pupils. Take a look at some of the photos from the performance in the images & videos gallery on the right.
