Are You Dame For A Laugh?

Posted on 12 December 2014

It’s National Panto Day! Oh Yes It Is!

To celebrate, the Belgrade Theatre will be holding its first ever Dame Race in Broadgate Square between 12noon – 1pm.

The eagerly anticipated sporting event, which has been organised to help raise awareness for the Belgrade’s Give The Gift Of Theatre Campaign, will see brave representatives from Coventry and Warwickshire’s business community don their wigs and greasepaint in the race to be crowned the ultimate panto champion.

The Dame Race will take place between 12noon- 1pm in Broadgate Central Square. This will be followed by mince pies at the High Street branch of Barclays Bank featuring special guests and stars of the Belgrade panto, Iain Lauchlan (Widow Twankey) and Craig Hollingsworth (Wishee Washee).

The Belgrade Theatre is appealing for local businesses who are ‘dame’ for a laugh to come forward to take part in the race. Teams must feature a minimum of three people and a maximum of six. For enquiries, contact Lexy Rooney (Development Officer) on 024 7684 6758 or email arooney@belgrade.co.uk. The Dame Race is free to enter but donations to Give the Gift of Theatre are welcomed.

The Belgrade’s Give The Gift Of Theatre aims to provide at least 400 people, referred through Coventry Foodbanks’ referral partners, with tickets to a performance of Aladdin. Building on the success of previous campaigns, monies raised through this year’s Give The Gift Of Theatre Campaign will also help support a specially recorded performance of Aladdin to be shown at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire, Acorn’s Hospice and Birmingham Children’s Hospital plus selected Nursing Homes around the city including The Beaufort, Chartwood House, Herald Lodge and Keresley Wood.

To make a donation to the Belgrade’s Give the Gift of Theatre campaign call 024 7684 6758 or visit www.localgiving.com/belgradetheatre All funds raised will help ensure that families who are facing financial hardship and people spending the Christmas period in a hospital, hospice or nursing home will not miss out on seeing this year’s Belgrade pantomime, Aladdin.

Tickets for Aladdin are available now from the Belgrade Theatre’s Box Office on 024 7655 3055 priced from £16.25 to £31 or via www.belgrade.co.uk where cheaper tickets are available.
